The sky is the limit….

I like having basic fabrics ( all white ) in my stash. Cotton jersey, silk jersey, viscose jersey, cotton corduroy, white and neutral linen in different weight, wool jersey and some others with interesting structure or feeling to it. I also have basic yarns and threads in white. I then dye it after or before sewing, that way I can make whatever I want and not get in these situations : ……”Oh what a beautiful color…but oh no…polyester….or what a wonderful texture and ….ooops…I wish that blue was just a little more……” Did anyone say control freak. Well it is more a matter of unlimited opportunities. I think this is one of the reasons that I ended up as a potter. There will always be enough clay and no limits except that of the materials own.
Before leaving we spend a couple of days in my studio. I did some cleaning, but also had the time to dye the body suits I made for Seth . I really like it and hope I can also find the time to make some prints…that would be so much fun. Did I say no limits and did anyone mention time as a factor…..

They all look amazing! I've been wondering about dying fabrics for babies and at the same time caring about the environment - what kind of dye are you using? Are there organic alternatives out there, or are home dyes not very chemical perhaps? I would love to hear (and see!) more... :)

orv, jeg vil også gerne høre mere om hjemmefarvning! Ville ønske jeg havde et værksted med plads til batikfarvning etc.

Lækre farver du har valgt! :-)

They are so pretty!
I also wonder about what dye you are using, and at what temperature do you wash the clothes after they had been done? Doesn't the colour wash off after while?
Lovely pictures and lovely stuff you are making, by the way :)

Hei Mette,

Those colours are gorgeous, as are all your babyclothes! I would also love to know more about the dye you use.

Are the dyes you use Mette, natural or commercial?? I used to use a good commercial dye but stopped because I was more interested in natural dyes. Check out http://simmy.typepad.com/photos/natural_dyeing/index.html
for great information on natural dyeing!

Thanks for all the comments...I am having trouble answering e mails from Greece.....The stains are commercial ones, but the ones used by professione textile designers. They keep colours fantastic... I dont know much about natural dyes. It is very importent to keep in mind how toxic the dye and the helping chemicals are... Thank you Kirti for leaving the link to the natural dyes
